FOURWAYS – Warrant Officer Balan Muthan warns community members about marijuana.

A total of 27 suspects were arrested by Douglasdale police recently for various crimes ranging from shoplifting to possession of marijuana.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station said 10 people were arrested for possession of marijuana.

He added that while many people knew that marijuana was illegal, there were still many who were under the impression that the drug was legal.

“Anyone caught with any amount of marijuana is breaking the law,” he said. Muthan explained that while jail sentences could be given out to anyone caught with large amounts of marijuana, anyone caught with small amounts could also be sentenced, given community service or fined, depending on their previous convictions.
