SuperSport bags Kaizer Chiefs stalwart

JOBURG - Former Kaizer Chiefs stalwart, Reneilwe Letsholonyane has signed for SuperSport United.

SuperSport United has announced the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs stalwart Reneilwe Letsholonyane, a midfielder who brought delight to Glamour Boys’ fans over many seasons.

Matsatsantsa A Pitori, (or the bourgeoisie of Pretoria) as SuperSport is known to its avid fans, signed Letsholonyane on a free transfer after being offloaded by Amakhosi as excess baggage under new coach Steve Komphela.

Letsholonyane, who joins Matsatsantsa on a two-year deal, is one of many players discarded by Amakhosi after a disastrous season in which they didn’t win any silverware. It was a baptism of fire for Komphela in the 2015/16 season and one that he would rather forget.

The 33-year-old midfielder made 183 appearances over the past eight seasons for Amakhosi and has won an impressive 50 caps for Bafana Bafana. He was one of the players who former Chiefs and now SuperSport coach Stuart Baxter had been trying to lure to his new club.

“I am thrilled to be a part of SuperSport United,” said Letsholonyane.

“I know the coach from my time at Chiefs and I am looking forward to working with him again here.

“SuperSport has shown that they are a very professional club that looks after their players and is always competitive in the cups and a team who are very tough to beat. I am also looking forward to playing in Africa in the Confederations Cup.”

Letsholonyane has previously spent time at Jomo Cosmos, where he made his name in 70 appearances, scoring seven goals along the way. He joined Ezenkosi (Cosmos) from PJ Stars in 2006 where he made 49 starts after working his way up through the lower divisions with spells at the likes of Dangerous Darkies United and Hellenic FC.
