EFF members in court for land invasion

DIEPSLOOT – Book thrown at the EFF land invaders

THREE Diepsloot members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) were released on a warning on 31 May for land invasion and public violence.

Two women, aged 29 and 33, and a 29-year-old man were arrested in Diepsloot Ext 1 following land-grab attempts on the eastern side of the populous township.

Diepsloot police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela told Fourways Review that they were part of a group that attempted to illegally occupy land in Diepsloot East. He added that a small section of the group resorted to burning tyres and barricading Ingonyama Road.

“The police acted swiftly by arresting three suspects,” said Mavimbela.

He added that local members of the EFF arrived at Diepsloot Police Station demanding the release of the trio. “We made it clear that the barricading of roads and burning of tyres will not be tolerated. And we will continue to arrest perpetrators of such acts.”

The trio was released with a warning by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
