Woman’s handbag stolen in shopping centre

KYALAMI - Be vigilant when doing your shopping.

A woman was allegedly robbed of her handbag while shopping at Woolworths in Crowthorne Shopping Centre.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that two women followed her inside the store and then split up.

“One of the women stole my handbag from inside my trolley and I only realised that my handbag was stolen when I wanted to pay,” she said.

The woman added that she then called the manager, who was also shocked.

“I went the following day to report the case at Midrand Police Station and the manager of the store came with me to confirm that the case did indeed take place at the store. He was very helpful,” the woman said.

Spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, confirmed that a case had been opened at the police station and it was still undergoing investigation.

He stressed that shoppers should be more vigilant and should be alert to any suspicious activity around them.

Woolworths’ management stated that they did all they could to help the woman with her case and did not want to give further comment.

By the time of publication, Crowthorne Shopping Centre had not responded to our queries.
