Transport MEC to officially open the rehabilitated Cedar Road

JOBURG - R96-million Cedar Road project completed in time.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Dr Ismail Vadi will officially open the rehabilitated Cedar Road (D1027) in Fourways on 2 June.

The R96-million road project was part of the Open Tender Process pilot project where adjudication was done in the presence of public members as well as the media.

“The project’s objectives included the upgrading of both Cedar Road North and South into a dual carriageway status as well as improve its pavement life from Valley to Runnymead roads,” said the department’s media liaison officer Melitah Madiba

Madiba said Cedar Road was part of the road network of Gautrans which functioned as an inter-urban collector [a road which collects (or distributes) traffic in a local district] for the surrounding townships.

“Significant development has been experienced in this area over the past 15 years and it is anticipated that it will continue to experience this growth,” she said.

The upgraded road is envisioned to improve mobility and decrease traveling times. The project was completed within the allowed budget and contract period.
