Main Road resurfaced

JOHANNESBURG - Read up on how the Johannesburg Roads Agency is making progress on the roads in Fourways.

As part of the resurfacing project by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), the resurfacing of Main Road is currently underway and William Nicol Drive is scheduled to follow.

According to the agency’s operations manager for marketing and communications, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, the project commenced in May and will continue until June and aims to improve the road conditions on the main arterial routes to ensure ease of mobility for all road users.

“Our road resurfacing programme focuses on repairing the top surface of the road, and entails basic treatment, mainly crack sealing and priming the surface followed by overlaying with asphalt to deal with road deterioration and potholes,” Peters-Scheepers explained.

She added that the project had already used 1 600 tons of asphalt on Main Road and more than six kilometres of road will be resurfaced by the end of May.

“As part of the same project, William Nicol Drive from the N1 highway to Sloane Street is also scheduled for resurfacing in the last week of May.

Bryanston Drive intersection at William Nicol Drive as well as William Nicol Drive and Main Road crossing will also receive attention,” Peters-Scheepers said.

She concluded that pre-markings will be put in place as soon as possible and after two weeks, road markings will also be undertaken. “We thank the community for their patience and understanding while we work to provide quality roads.”
