And the nominees for Top Cop Award are …

FOURWAYS - Detective Constable Sithembiso Mthembu and the late Detective Constable Thabo Selekedi nominated in the Best Member Detectives category for the Top Cop Awards

 

Detective Constable Sithembiso Mthembu and the late Detective Constable Thabo Selekedi have been nominated in the Best Member Detectives category for the Top Cop Awards.

The two were nominated for their investigation work which resulted in the convictions of a number of house robbery and rape suspects.

The Top Cop Awards give the public an opportunity to nominate and vote for police and Metro police officers of Douglasdale Police Station who have excelled in the line of duty.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the station Ssaid, “It is because of the hard work of these two members that arrests were possible.” He said Selekedi and Mthembu were responsible for the conviction of Takalani Mphepu, Irvin Mkhabela and Maxwell Mpofu who were all found guilty of house robbery, housebreaking, theft and rape by the High Court.

According to Muthan, the three will serve a total of eight life sentences plus a number of years behind bars.

He also congratulated Mthembu for his convictions on three other cases. “It is motivating and encouraging to work with committed members. The standard of work of these members is of a very high calibre, it is a pleasure to have these members working at the Douglasdale Police Station,” he said.

Every month, Fourways Review will publish nominations in print and online and ask readers to vote for who they think deserves to win the Top Cop award. The winner each month will receive R2 500 from Auto & General. On top of this, there will be six other categories in which winners will receive a certificate and R500. These winners will be selected by the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum.

The monthly winners from April to November will then be nominated for the year-end Top Cop Award and voted for by the public where the winner will receive R5 000. The overall Top Cop will win a whopping R25 000. The grand total of prizes being sponsored by Auto & General amounts to more than R100 000.

Muthan said if Selekedi was voted for as one of the winners, the money would be awarded to his family.

To vote for Selekedi and Mthembu SMS ‘TOP COP’ to 33657, along with the surname of the nominated officers, before 25 May.
