Creating a generation of entrepreneurs

FOURWAYS – Greg Maloka inspires entrepreneurs to think out of the box

Riversands Incubation Hub held its monthly business club meeting featuring Greg Maloka, managing director of Kaya FM as the guest speaker.

The media personality and businessman, shared his journey in the media and business worlds, encouraging entrepreneurs to dream and leave behind a good legacy for future generations.

Passionate about music, Maloka started his career on campus radio which he then helped grow to become a community radio station. He was later chosen to join YFM as part of the launch team.

In 2008, after years spent in radio and research, he joined Kaya FM as managing director and has helped the station to become a leading independent regional station.

Maloka stressed the importance of having the right energy – something he believes has helped him become the person he is today. “Energy is important. If you have the right mindset and energy, nothing can stand in your way. You must also create your own luck – it’s all about being in the moment,” he said.

Maloka pointed out that one of the most unfortunate things was that a lot of generations did not understand their purpose. He urged entrepreneurs to have a purpose, vision and, most importantly, to understand their environment, and said his aim was to create an environment for people to succeed and urged entrepreneurs to do the same.

“The businesses you’re building today aren’t about you. If you want to succeed, you must cast your eye further than you can see,” he said.

“It’s about your children – if they see what you’re doing, they’ll replicate it. You must create fruit for the next generations and teach them to water the plant so the generations after them will eat that fruit and learn that they must plant the seed back into the soil.”

Acknowledging that business was not for the faint-hearted, Maloka explained that business was about trying different strategies and not being afraid to regroup.

  • Be their own inspiration
  • Understand their own strengths
  • Be detailed in their thinking
  • Be bold
  • Never stop learning
  • Create their own environment for success
  • Stick to their own strategy.

“Don’t be ordinary, be extraordinary,” he concluded.

The next Riversands Business Club meeting is scheduled to take place on 19 May and Luvuyo Rani, owner of Silulo Ulutho Technologies, an information and communications technology business will be the guest speaker.

His talk titled, From the Boot of My Car, will shed light on his business journey – starting from selling computers from his car to growing from a single store to 36 branches.

The club meeting is a monthly networking event for corporate partners, entrepreneurs and members of the public. On the day, a key speaker is invited to share insights that attendees can use to either venture into entrepreneurship, grow their existing business or improve as individuals.
