‘We need a miracle for DA not to win’ – Mashaba speaking in Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT - Democratic Alliance Leader Mmusi Maimane was mobbed by Diepsloot residents as he walked along Ngwenyama and JB Marks Streets to Neighbourhood Community Hall to inspect the voter registration exercise on 9 April.

Hundreds of residents of the impoverished township lined up the streets to get a glimpse of the leader of the biggest opposition party in South Africa. Some walked up to him for physical hand shakes.

Others whistled and cheered: “Maimane, Maimane. Maimane!” as he strolled down the street accompanied by his party’s Mayoral Candidate Herman Mashaba; DA Legislator, Honourable Cameron Mackenzie; councillors Chris Santana and Refilwe Mathebula.

“We are suffering here, Maimane, when will you rescue us,” shouted one woman as she rushed to embrace him.

“That is the reason why we are here. We want to rescue you from the problems of poor service delivery you are facing here,” said Maimane while shaking hands of his admirers.

In an exclusive interview with Fourways Review soon after signing an inspection voter registration book Maimane announced the demise of ANC in Diepsloot.

“ANC is in trouble everywhere. People have realised that the ANC and Zuma are just the same. What every South African does not doubt is the fact that ANC has failed to deliver services to the people,” said Maimane.

He added that the squalid state of Diepsloot township was living evidence of the ANC’s failure to deliver basic services.

“This is not acceptable by any standard,” said Maimane as he points at a cesspool gushing out filthy smelling water.

Turning to Nkandla-gate, Maimane said Parliament will be investigating two contradictory statements pertaining to the funding of Zuma’s rural home’s multi-million Rand upgrade.

“We will ask Parliament to investigate whether Zuma has lied to Parliament, we believe he has. He told Parliament that he has a bond and will not pay but in court he argued a different story,” said Maimane.

The tough-talking DA leader announced that his party will be leading a protest march against Zuma on 15 April.

Speaking during the same occasion DA Mayoral candidate, Mashaba, said his victory was certain, adding that the people of South Africa were ready for change.

“We need a miracle for DA not to win,” said Mashaba.
