Search continues for woman washed away during flash floods on 17 March

CHARTWELL - The search and rescue of the missing 55-year-old woman, who was allegedly swept away by a flood after attempting to cross a low-lying bridge on 3rd Road near Chartwell on 17 March, is still underway.

 

According to the chairperson of Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF), Jean Berdou, there was still no sign of the missing woman on 21 March as search teams began the search again.

Head of communications for Douglasdale Police Station, Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said, “The woman was driving a Renault SUV on the bridge and due to the flood, the vehicle became afloat and she allegedly got out of the vehicle and has now gone missing,”

Muthan stated that police search units and K9 Units have been on the scene since 17 March to search for the woman.

“Everybody’s life is important to the police and we will do whatever we can to find the woman.”

Police are yet to give more information about the story.
