Ubuntu Awards recognises earth warrior

JOHANNESBURG – International climate activist and renowned humanitarian, Catherine Constantinides, was one of many who were honored at the annual Ubuntu Awards in Cape Town.

The awards, hosted by the Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, is a high-profile State event that recognises South African industry leaders and eminent persons for their service and contribution to promoting South Africa’s national interests, foreign policy and values around the world.

President Jacob Zuma gave the keynote address to captains of industry, leaders of civil society, members of the Cabinet, and ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to South Africa.

Constantinides was honoured for her humanitarian work around the world. She received the Ubuntu Youth Diplomacy Award and was one of eight award-winners from across different categories ranging from culture and economics to sports.

The award highlighted her patriotism, and she has definitely distinguished herself as a true ambassador of the country. “I’m truly humbled and overwhelmed to be recognised and acknowledged at such a level for my work,” she stated.

“I come from a community that I am truly proud of and that, I believe, is a reflection of what is indeed possible in our country and continent. I am proud to fly our flag high and will continue to be an ambassador for our country and the causes close to my heart, as we build the South Africa and Africa we believe is possible.”
