WATCH OUT: Avoid driving over oranges on the road

JOBURG - A photograph of oranges stuffed with nails has been doing the rounds on social media as a warning to all motorists of a new crime trend used by hijackers.

According to Intelligence Bureau SA on Facebook, the oranges are filled with nails and then strewn on the road. When motorists drive over them, their tyres get damaged and consequently, motorists are forced to stop and this is when hijackers take advantage.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the spokesperson for Sandton police, said the new crime trend was noticed in Rustenburg and, so far, there have been no reports of it in Sandton.

The Intelligence Bureau SA page has warned all motorists to be vigilant and to avoid driving over fruit on the road.
