Book launch at Skoobs Theatre of Books

JOBURG - Book lovers and novel fanatics were invited to a Paris-themed book launch of Lize Jacobs’ Last On Chance at Skoobs Theatre of Books in Montecasino on 18 November.

The theme of the evening was in commemoration of the recent Paris tragedy, as the book is about a character who experiences a failed marriage and then decides to travel to France to get rid of her wedding ring by throwing it from the top of the Eiffel Tower. She decides to stay in Paris for five days and meets interesting characters on her journey.

“I really appreciate everyone who helped me reach my goal of writing this book. If it was not for everyone helping, pushing and motivating me, this evening would have not been possible,” Jacobs expressed.

Deborah du Plooy, owner of Skoobs Theatre of Books said, “As a bookstore, we pride ourselves in supporting South African authors. When I read these authors’ books, I get to engage with them, hold them and embrace what they are writing about.”

The bookstore is celebrating their fifth birthday and instead of receiving gifts, they thought of giving to those in need, and are doing so by donating 150 children’s books to Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation, a charity of Jacob’s choice.

The non-profit charity organisation believes in the potential of the poor to effect change in their own lives and in the world. Their sponsorship programme connects individual sponsors with a child, youth or elderly person in need of encouragement and support. This gives families hope that they can create a path out of poverty for their children.

The charity will also receive a R30 000 mobile library from Rich Simmonds, Forbes’ Top 10 Influencer in Africa.
