Chartwell Country Estates to be preserved as a conservancy

CHARTWELL – Chartwell Country Estates (CCE) recently became a registered and protected Gauteng Conservancy.

The new conservancy registration complements Chartwell Vision 2020 initiatives, while protecting and enhancing the two sizable wetlands and the perennial Klein Jukskei River which borders Chartwell to the west.

The initiative’s vision seeks to redress years of stagnation and neglect from various quarters, which include dealing with urgent matters such as security, improved street lighting, appropriate land use consistent with a rural residential lifestyle, improved perimeter management of the estate, road maintenance, traffic-calming measures, storm water drainage and other general estate management issues.

The conservancy is represented by Chartwell Country Estates Residents’ Association, which aims to passionately protect and enhance the area in both a sustainable and ecologically sound manner.

The association seeks to create a secure, crime-free environment for the residents and the many visitors that enjoy the area for recreational purposes on a daily basis.

The CCE’s conservancy efforts are supported by various government departments and do so by donating hundreds of indigenous trees for the river, wetlands and the road verges.

The government further assists with both expertise and resources to help remove and clear alien vegetation from the conservancy area, which will subsequently ensure the long-term sustainability of Chartwell’s ecosystems.
