Compost gang is back

FOURWAYS - The compost gang is back with a bang, and this time they struck in Syringa Avenue in Broadacres and Hurlingam Gardens in Fourways.

The manure thugs had gone silent over the past few months after the Fourways Review exposed their operations in the area six months ago. The gang, however, has resurfaced, cajoling a resident of Syringa Avenue to part with her hard-earned R1 100 for a few bags of compost which she never asked for.

“Based on our unfortunate experience, we would like to forewarn the residents in the northern suburbs to be cautious when tempted to enter into deals with the man who identifies himself as Shaun and claims he is the foreman,” said the resident who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation.

“He is apparently known in the area, but we had not heard about his scam, that is why we gave in to the onslaught of his scamming aptitude.”

She added that the foreman was a slender man, very persistent and spoke extremely fast while trying to sell the compost which supposedly had some extraordinary properties.

“He drives a small truck, a white Kia with the registration BZ08KKGP and is accompanied by at least six young men.”

The resident said the gang misled security guards into believing that they were invited to supply manure.

“The moment they were allowed access to the property, we lost control as they created pandemonium, offloading as many bags as they could, refusing to listen to what we tried to say,” she said.

She added that when the gang was requested to leave the property, they demanded an exorbitant sum of money, and when the resident refused they became very aggressive and threatening.

“They entirely disregarded my request for five bags only and claimed they had offloaded 46 bags, while others were claiming 60 bags,” she said.
