Rotary Family Health Day a success

DIEPSLOOT – In a bid to promote healthy lifestyles, the Rotary Club of Morningside in conjunction with the Department of Health, screened 1 246 Diepsloot residents as part of the Rotary Family Health Day at the Diepsloot Methodist Church Hall.

The campaign was part of a national drive that took place at 120 sites throughout the country and was in partnership with Rotarians in South Africa, the United States President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief, MTN SA Foundation, the South African Broadcasting Commission of South Africa and Caxton Newspapers.

Now in its third year, the event provided Diepsloot residents access to free TB screening and testing, HIV counselling and testing, vitamin A supplements and healthy lifestyle information, immunisations, health screening (blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes) among others.

As well as the services provided by the Department of Health, a number of non-government organisations and other organisations provided services which included eye testing, breast health education and mammography, cervical cancer screening and birth control education, dental hygiene and post-natal care for new moms.

The Witkoppen Clinic also provided their services to the public.

Arnold Bell of the Rotary Club of Morningside said, “The Diepsloot site was a great success with next year promising to be even bigger and better.”
