Help deliver happiness to Diepsloot children

Before the schools close for the December holidays, a convoy of large trucks loaded with the school bags will head towards primary schools in Diepsloot.

Driven by Father Christmas, the fleet will be accompanied by blaring carols and lit up with fairy lights and steered by Steyn City management, staff and volunteers who will hand the items to the pupils with an assortment of confectionery to spread the festive cheer.

Head of marketing of Steyn City, Tammy Menton, said they partnered with a youthful entrepreneur, Thato Kgatlhanye of Repurpose Schoolbags. Kgatlhanye made headlines recently as one of the youth icons in 21 Icons Season III The Future of a Nation.

“There’s no greater pleasure than to put a smile on a face of an innocent child. Working with Steyn City in raising the beacon of hope for the destitute and disadvantaged community of Diepsloot is a service and honour that every privileged South African should experience,” said Steyn City ambassador and MetroFM radio personality, Tbo-Touch, on his involvement with the project.

Menton said school supplies are desperately needed which prompted Steyn City to appeal to affluent residents of Johannesburg North to donate a schoolbag.

“Steyn City urges members of the public and residents in the north of Johannesburg to pledge one schoolbag or more for R110 each this Christmas to give pupils a sense of pride. For sponsors and SMEs, orders of 1 000 or more will receive branding on the bags,” said Steyn City.

“Steyn City, together with ongoing sponsors, will do the rest: fill the bags with items of stationery, toys, food and sweets and will distribute them. So we are not asking for your time, just one pledge to give one pupil a cherished gift.”
