UPDATE: 24 August 2015, 9pm – According to the managing director of Securitas, Sean Kinsey, there were between three and five suspects involved in the shootout.
He said, “A woman was in the chiropractor’s office and was struck and wounded on her head. It is unclear how many wounds the guard sustained but he was taken to Morningside Mediclinic for treatment of a flesh wound to his back. The woman was also treated for the wound to her head.”
He went on to state that the suspects stole a laptop and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Kinsey said Securitas had noticed an upward growth in business robberies, especially in businesses located in residential areas.
UPDATE: 24 August 2015, 8:35pm – According to the managing director of Securitas, Sean Kinsey, one of their guards was shot and injured during a shootout on Peter Place.
Kinsey said, “One of our security guards was on duty at a complex in Peter Place. He responded to an alarm that sounded and upon further investigation, he (the security guard) discovered suspects robbing a chiropractor’s office.”
Kinsey stated that a shootout then ensued between the suspects and the Securitas gaurd.
He further added, “The guard ran out of ammunition during the shootout. He then retreated and while retreating to safety, he was shot in the back. He was wearing a bullet proof vest.”
It remains unclear how many suspects were involved in the shootout at this stage. The suspects are at large. It is believed a massive manhunt is underway to locate the suspects.
The guard was transported to a medical facility for further treatment.
INITIAL REPORT: 24 August 2015, 8pm – It is believed that a shootout took place on Old Kilcullen Road and Peter Place corner.
According to unconfirmed reports, it is alleged that a Securitas guard was shot in the shootout.
According to a post in the Eblockwatch facebook group, “A member just heard lots of shooting near Wiliam Nicol Pick n Pay. And then sirens. At least 15 shots.”
Another member commented in the group, “Just drove past about 8 Securitas vehicles, 5 SAPS and a few paramedics. Apparently a mass shooting but unconfirmed.”
