‘Polite’ suspects tie up four in Douglasdale

DOUGLASDALE -  Four residents of Green Park, Douglasdale, were held up at gun point at about 7.10pm on 21 August. 

One of the victims, who wished to remain anonymous told Fourways Review that the suspects lifted the gate to their house, before entering and tying the family up using cable ties.

He said he was at the house with his wife, who is 16 weeks pregnant, his father and his fathers fiance.

“They were very polite. They did not throw or bash us around. They were well spoken and well groomed,” he said.

“They cleaned us out. They took engagement rings, wedding rings, five laptops, watches and our 65 inch TV.”

The victims were tied up in the kitchen and said said it was very strange that that the suspects left a phone behind, which they used to call for help. The entire ordeal lasted about 15 minuets.

The victim alerted phoned Andre Snyman of Eblockwatch shortly after the robbery. “We are members of Eblockwatch and the neighborhood watch,” he said.

“The police were very proactive when they arrived, they were very comforting,” he said.

Commenting on the crime situation in Joburg, Snyman said “Every cop that I have spoken to says that what we are going through at the moment is the worst they have ever experienced. Talking about the amount of crime now.”
