Piece of dog’s ear snipped off at parlour

LONEHILL – Social media recently lit up after a post about a dog whose ear was cut at the Pompeii Pet Parlour in Lonehill.

A Facebook post by user Jodi-Ann Pearton said, “[I am] utterly disgusted by Pompeii the new pet salon at Lonehill Shopping Centre. We took our dogs there today, and they cut 1cm of our Yorkies [dog] ear off and didn’t tell us.”

Pearton added that in an attempt to hide the incident, the parlour simply dumped the dog in his bag and handed it back to her.

“We got home to our dog covered in blood and with half an ear,” Pearton added.

An owner of the salon who wished to remain anonymous, explained that they were made aware of the incident the following day.

“The dog was groomed by a new groomer who was still on probation. She was scared and didn’t want to lose the opportunity of the job. We only became aware of the incident the following day.”

The salon explained that the groomer had since been dismissed and the pet parlour was meeting with Pearton later today.

“Clearly the dog wasn’t in the state the [Facebook] pictures are depicting when it left the salon, as the owner only saw that it was hurt hours later,” the salon owner added.

The owner also explained that the parlour was willing to refund Pearton all vet bills incurred after viewing the vet reports.

The parlour has since put measures in place to ensure that such an incident does not occur again. According to the owners, the parlour plans to turn away unruly dogs and add cameras, as well as supervise groomers more closely.

A manager at the salon said, “If an ear was missing, we would have seen the blood and taken the dog to the vet which is five minutes away.” The manager added that he assumed the groomer put potassium permanganate on the dog’s ear after noticing that she cut it.

“This could have coagulated the blood. According to the manager, if the dog’s ear was severely cut, the potassium permanganate would not stop the bleeding and the dog would have been stressed,” said a parlour manager.
