Clay Oven residents learn about hygiene

PAULSHOF - The children of Clay Oven informal settlement were treated to a lunch event of a different kind on 1 August.

Kimberly-Clark South Africa, a hygiene company which partners with Yeshua Generation Church situated next to the informal settlement, conducted hygiene lessons to the children of the community at Clay Oven’s daycare centre.

The event started with the children being taught how to use hand sanitisers and how important it is to wash their hands before eating food. Hand wash and sanitisers were placed around the centre.

After the hygiene lessons, the residents were given toilet paper and the women were given sanitary towels.

Kate Anderson, CEO and general manager of Kimberly-Clark South Africa was in attendance at the event. Anderson, along with other members of the company, played games with the children and had fun with them.

According to Pumla Mwepu, marketing manager of Kimberly-Clark South Africa, they saw the need to assist with basic hygiene, as germs can easily spread if one does not know how important hygiene is.

“The initiative was a community event and lunch was served to end the day,” she said.
