Serendipity for the Springboks

MONTECASINO- Springboks both past and current, media contingents, Tsogo Sun management and South African Rugby Union (Saru) officials came together at Montecasino to launch the Fly the Flag campaign ahead of the Boks 2015 World Cup campaign.

Deputy president of Saru, Mark Alexander believes that the Springboks can win the World Cup again if South Africans stick to their guns as supporters. “We have a good chance to win, we are very positive,” he said. “It is fantastic how people rally behind the Boks, lets hope that South African’s keep it up throughout the cup.

“Twenty years ago today, the entire nation was united in euphoria after the Bokke won the World Cup. It is only fitting that we unite behind the Boks once again [on this day].”

Tsogo Sun will be opening their doors nationwide to the public to give fans a chance to write the Boks a message of support on strips of ribbon. All the pieces of ribbon will be stitched into a massive flag due to be presented to the Boks at their farewell event on 11 September at Montecasino. A scaled-down version of the flag will be sent with the team to England for the cup which begins on 22 September.

Each player will also receive their own miniature version of the flag to take with them for inspiration.

“The whole idea of the campaign is to get South African’s to bring back the magic of 95,” said Alexander.
