Ark Animal Centre is boosted by beauty

PARKTOWN NORTH - Beauty showed that it does have a heart when Ark Animal Shelter received a welcome donation.

This when 15 On Seventh, a beauty parlour in Parktown North, helped Ark Animal Shelter to raise R10 000 without asking for anything in return. The parlour hosted an open day attended by Mrs South Africa Sarah-Kate Scott.

“Dr Mark Steinmann adopted his Doberman from Ark, and so did the lady at Brows Studio [at 15 On Seventh]. Their adoption experience led them to do a fundraiser for us,” said Candice Eilertsen of Ark Animal Shelter.

“[Working with 15 on Seventh was] totally different. Ark is four years old, so I’ve noticed that organisations often come wanting to help only to make demands of us [as a charity].

“With 15 on Seventh, I felt that I didn’t do enough. They really took the initiative…finding their own sponsors – something most businesses expect us to do – and everything. It was so refreshing to work with people who sincerely wanted to help.”

Gina Angelo of 15 On Seventh happily confirmed the warmth behind the parlour’s intentions. “We all love animals; we spent time with the puppies at Ark, and were impressed by the work they do. So we decided to make the shelter our primary charity,” she said.

“There is a huge misconception the public [have around the beauty industry]. We feel strongly about animal testing, none of our products have been tested on animals. And many large companies feel the same.”
