Safe haven in Bryanston

BRYANSTON - BRYANSTON resident and substance abuse counsellor Marius Swart has established a daycare centre for recovering drug addicts, Addicts Haven in the suburb.

Swart has years of experience as a substance abuse counsellor at institutions such as Tranquillity Clinic in Linden.

“I’ve noticed that many young people who leave the rehabilitation clinic go home and do nothing,” he said.

“They’re bored and they start doing the wrong things and go into old behaviour. So I wanted to start a daycare centre for adults.”

He added that in an attempt to give peace of mind to addicts’ families, patients would be able to kick-start their lives through group therapy at the centre, and have access to computers to look for jobs.

Being the first daycare centre of its kind in South Africa, Swart said the programme would act as a way for individuals who were in recovery, and their families, to receive a strong support base to help them move their lives forward.

Swart concluded that the daycare centre would also host family sessions in an attempt to ease the difficulties that all families go through in such cases.
