An intersection nightmare

Fourways - FOURWAYS motorists are breathing fire about the ongoing roadworks at the busy intersection of William Nicol Drive and Uranium Road.

Daryn Lee of Fourways, said the construction had been going on for two years – which he described as an “inconvenience” to motorists.

“They are forever chopping that road with heavy machinery. It does not look like this will come to an end,” fumed Lee.

He said construction seemed to have been completed a few weeks ago, but then resumed.

“At one moment no construction was going on and we thought they were clearing the area but they started chopping the road again. The robots were removed,” said Lee.

Fourways Review visited the intersection and found that there were no robots at the busy intersection. There was also construction debris and equipment. Motorists interviewed at the intersection said the construction was a nightmare.

“What exactly is being fixed here?” asked one motorist who identified himself as Amon.

Another motorist who declined to be named said the busy road was being used by impatient taxis drivers commuting between town and Diepsloot.

“You can just imagine the commotion that results when the taxi drivers’ way is limited,” he said.

Department of Roads and Transport spokesperson, Isaac Dhludhlu confirmed there was construction at the intersection, but promised to further investigate motorists’ complaints.
