Poo on Diepsloot residents’ doorsteps

Diepsloot - RESIDENTS of Diepsloot have been living with the stench of sewage dripping from burst pipes since February.

Sewerage pipes that run along Sapphire and Ruby streets are giving in to pressure and rust. The pipes are riddled with holes that occasionally spew stinking effluent on residents’ doorsteps.

Democratic Alliance public relations councillor, Refilwe Mathebula accused the ANC-led Joburg Council of neglecting the residents’ concerns.

“A complaint was logged with Joburg Water in February, but three months later, nothing has been done,” fumed Mathebula.

Mathebula said residents have been forced to eat their meals in an atrocious environment of foul smells with flies buzzing around.

“It’s sad to see people live like pigs in 2015 after 21 years of democracy,” said Mathebula.

The councillor added that roads and streetlights were also in a bad state in Diepsloot.

“If it’s not sewage it’s street lights that are not working. Not forgetting the poor roads with potholes,” said Mathebula in a written statement to Fourways Review.

Efforts to secure a response from Joburg Water’s Millicent Kabwe drew blanks.
