Compost gang allegedly terrorises complex residents

Fourways - SOME residents of Fourways View residential complex were allegedly coerced into buying compost from five men who were occupants of a red Ford pickup truck.

Rhona Rakow of Trafalgar Property Management, which is letting out the 38-unit complex in Macbeth Avenue, told Fourways Review that the men told the security personnel at the gate that they were looking for the caretaker of the building.

“Once inside, they started emptying their compost in the residents’ gardens before demanding R100 payments,” said Rakow.

One resident, who requested anonymity, said she watched the men driving to her unit before emptying their compost on her plants.

“They stopped at all the units trying to sell bags of compost. [There were] four to five men in a Ford bakkie. They immediately started putting a bag [of compost] on my plants and when I told them to stop they demanded R100,” complained the resident.

She added that the men allegedly became aggressive when she refused to pay them and they started uttering racist remarks.

The resident alleged that one of the men armed himself with a spade and confronted her demanding a R100 payment. The gang stopped at every unit forcing residents to accept and pay for the compost.

Rakow said security at the complex had been put on high alert in the face of alleged threats made by the compost gang.

“The security has been informed not to allow anyone inside our property to supply compost,” she said.

The registration of the truck is DK411GP.
