JOBURG – Isaac Mbilini, an inmate at Leeuwkop Maximum Prison who is serving a sentence for armed robbery, writes this poem titled, Crime:

Crime

You are a serious crisis to humanity

When we speak of you we remember senseless acts against

Law-abiding citizens. Today there are people who are disabled

Because of you, many lives are lost under You

Crime

Even children, women, grannies are raped, killed and Mutilated

What a merciless monster you are

There is no way you can be justified

You traumatise and leave victims in a terrible state

Today some lost husbands, some lost fathers

We hear cries of widows and orphans, neighborhoods are not safe

through the terror you are

Crime

You are negative to the economy of the country

You are catastrophic to many lives and a heinous torture

to the society in which innocent blood is being spilled every day

You are a bad stigma to those who got involved in you

Wounds you inflict with no intention to heal

Why these robberies, hijackings, murders, break-ins and rapes

in which you, crime, are behind?

You can’t be satisfied as a way of earning a living, at the cost of

hard-working people and as sad as it is, you even find those who

are supposed to fight this scourge involved in

Perpetrating this heinous act

Because crime you destroy
