Woman strangled to death for her car

PAULSHOF - A man charged with the murder of a woman in Paulshof on New Year's Eve appeared in the Randburg Magistrates' Court on 5 January and was denied bail.

According to Captain Kym Cloete, head of communications for the Sandton police, the police received a call on 1 January about a body that had been found on Mulberry Close in Paulshof.

She said on arrival, police surmised that the woman had been strangled and her car was missing. On 3 January, police tracked down the victim’s vehicle to Alberton, arrested a man and recovered the vehicle.

Cloete said the suspect was known to the victim as he had been doing work for her during the holiday season.

The suspect appeared in court on charges of murder and theft of motor vehicle. The suspect’s bail was opposed and he has been remanded into custody. He is now awaiting a new court date.

5 January, 2.30pm:

A woman was strangled to death in her car by a male suspect opposite the Paulshof Vet in Paulshof on New Year’s Eve.

The 32-year-old woman’s vehicle was then stolen by the suspect.

Captain Kym Cloete, head of communications for the Sandton police said the suspect had since been arrested and would appear in court on 5 January.
