Car catches fire after crashing through wall

BRYANSTON - A vehicle crashed into a wall and caught alight at the corner of Homestead and Shepherd Roads in Bryanston on the morning of 2 January.

According to ER24 paramedics the driver sustained minor injuries and had been transported to hospital.

Emer-G-Med also responded to the scene and representatives said the accident allegedly occurred after a female driver lost control of her vehicle after a high speed car chase with police in pursuit. According to Emer-G-Med the woman had shoplifted at Fourways Mall and made a run for it. Her vehicle caught alight after the accident and burnt out.

Captain Lydia Mtila, standby communications officer for the Honeydew Cluster, confirmed that the accident did occur however she could not give comment on the car chase or the allegations of shoplifting as she was not yet familiar with all the details.
