Caught on camera: Taxis behaving badly (VIDEO)

NORSCOT - Lara Suddes sent Fourways Review a video capturing a taxi blatantly driving on the wrong side of the road on Leslie Avenue and Turley Road. Suddes explained she witnessed the taxi disregard other motorists on 12 November.

According to Suddes, this was done during peak hour traffic, where cars are backed up and there is only a single lane.

She went on to say this was an everyday occurrence causing mayhem for other motorists. Fourways Review has reported on this issue before in Taxi drivers bend the rules in Norscot.

Frustrated Suddes hopes taxis that are flippant and arrogant will be brought to book. It does not only endanger those commuters in taxis, but other innocent drivers she added. In response to this incident, the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transportation said taxi owners needed to be stricter on their drivers and that better communication channels needed to be developed between taxi owners, taxi drivers and passengers.

The department said commuters were just as much to blame and should not flag down taxis in inconvenient areas. Additionally, the department said Metro police needed to be visible, and frequent fines and arrests needed to be made. Spokesperson for Metro police Wayne Minnar agreed that taxi drivers who disregard the rules of the road need to be brought to book.
