Suburban drug den bust

DAINFERN - Police seized R60 000 worth of drugs and arrested three suspects during a raid at a Dainfern home on 15 October at 8pm.

According to Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale police, officers were on a routine patrol when they noticed a man acting suspiciously at a shopping centre in Pineslopes.

The officers proceeded to question the man and also searched him. They found a substantial amount of marijuana in the man’s possession. Officers then questioned the suspect as to where and how he had obtained the drugs.

The suspect took the police to the place where he had bought the drugs, which was a residential home in Dainfern.

Muthan said police searched the premises in the presence of two other suspects and recovered a large amount of marijuana, as well as a bag of hallucinogenic mushrooms, colloquially known as ‘shrooms’.

In total, the drugs recovered from both the suspect from the mall and the Dainfern home, were worth R60 000. Muthan said the suspects aged 19, 20 and 21 were arrested and detained at Douglasdale Police Station overnight, and will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of possession of illegal substances.
