Hollywood megastar Tyler Perry, famous and beloved in South Africa for his Madea films, took to Twitter on Wednesday to thank the country for its support.
His movie Acrimony was second only to Dwayne Johnson’s blockbuster epic Rampage over the weekend, making R1.3 million recently.
Although the film has been panned by critics (as many Perry movies routinely are), that hasn’t stopped the money from rolling in (as routinely happens with many Perry movies).
The film only scores 24% on Rotten Tomatoes and gets less than 5 out of 10 on IMDB.
It tells the story of the dwindling balance of the life insurance proceeds a woman receives after her mother’s death, as she and her partner get over their heads in debt.
