Somizi Mhlongo has found a new home on popular channel Moja Love after some absence from TV screens, since abuse allegations were levelled at him by his estranged husband Mohale Motaung a few months ago.
The TV presenter and radio personality told TimesLIVE that the personal scandal has been difficult on him. He says the abuse claims took a toll on his professional life and that people didn’t give him the benefit of the doubt nor did they allow him to share his side of the story.
However, because of his experience and his beloved public persona, Somizi has managed to keep some work appearances during the past months but now he’s back with the big boys.

Moja Love has announced that Mhlongo alongside actress Gabisile Tshabalala will host a new dating show called Lovey Dovey.
The channel’s CEO Aubrey Tau said Somizi has a “massive TV appeal and it was no surprise to the channel that our viewers and his fans alike felt that he was the missing puzzle to the channel”.
Mhlongo’s popularity was clearly shown on Idols SA. Since his absence, many viewers have demanded his return to the singing competition.
Moja Love did not ignore the abuse allegations against the absent Metro FM presenter.
“Moja Love does not condone nor support domestic violence or abuse but, like any other business, it did not think it would be fair to deny Mhlongo a second chance on his much-deserved opportunity to join the channel as demanded by its viewers.”
The dating show will see contests compete in fun activities to connect and not be voted out by fellow competitors who all live in a luxury home in the Vaal River with a possible wedding in the end.
Mhlongo said in the statement that he is excited to join Moja Love, “especially because the channel tells our black stories in the most authentic and realistic way, which is something I am passionate about. Moja Love aligns perfectly with my brand.”
Lovey Dovey will premiere in February and the winning couple will win the grand prize of R500,000.
