Her dual roles as Radio DJ on 5FM and actress on Generations: The Legacy ensured her the title “hardest working women in show business” and she officially joined the male dominated world of DJing last month – where she is mixing serious beats.
Today marks another highlight, Thabethe is jetting off to Milan, Italy, as the sole South African host walking the red carpet at the 2015 MTV EMA awards.
She will have the opportunity to interview nominees such as Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift on October 25. The awards show will be hosted by Ed Sheeran and Ruby Rose from Orange is the New Black.
Thabethe says she unfortunately wasn’t allowed a guest or a partner to join her on the night, but she might see a few familiar faces.
Africa’s most celebrated contemporary artists, including South Africa’s AKA, Nigerian performers Yemi Alade and Davido, Ivory Coast’s DJ Arafat, as well Tanzania’s own hit maker Diamond Platnumz were nominated for “Best African Act”.
Performances during the awards show include Pharrell Williams, Ellie Goulding, Jason Derulo, Twenty One Pilots, Rudimental with Ed Sheeran, Tori Kelly, Jess Glynne and James Bay.
“I had to turn down a couple of (DJing) gigs to go,” Thabethe reveals – this only after a few weeks of performing at venues across the country.
Putting her DJing career on hold for a couple of days is not detrimental however, when you take into consideration she is documenting the trip for a TV special.
She’s also set to look good while doing it. Forever New is dressing her for her entire stay in Milan while Quiteria & George is dressing her in a short flirty dress for the red carpet.
Quiteria & George dressed Nomuzi Mabena in a showstopper fashion-forward dress with a tartan cape for last year’s MTV EMA, so Thabethe is in good hands.
Let’s wait and see how she takes over the fashion capital of the world.
The MTV EMAs will be broadcast live across the globe and on MTV (DStv channel 130) on Sunday October 25 at 9pm.
