Jailtime for car thief caught on highway

A car thief will spend seven years behind bars.

The Mokopane Regional Court sentenced Vusi Vincent Moloka (46) to seven years of direct imprisonment for having a stolen vehicle on Thursday, 22 August.

Moloka was apprehended on 20 March at 18:00 after the police received information about a stolen Toyota Fortuner with a Gauteng registration traveling from Johannesburg via the N1 to Limpopo.

With the help of local security companies, Spoorvat and Reflex Security, the vehicle was spotted on the highway. When pulled over, the driver fled but was later arrested in Modimolle with the stolen vehicle’s keys in his possession.

According to the provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the case was transferred to the Modimolle Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit and allocated to Detective Sergeant Mpedi Ngoepe, who ensured a watertight case and successfully opposed bail.
