Political leaders keep choices to themselves

The mainstream political parties in Limpopo have chosen not to single out their respective preferred candidates for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s much-anticipated cabinet.

A snap survey by The BEAT also teased out politicians about their preferred candidates for Premier Stan Mathabatha’s final choice of members of the executive.

Politicians instead chose to err on the side of caution, and thus kept their preferences close to the chest.

ANC Waterberg chairperson, Morris Mataboge, left it to the competency of the President and Premier Stan Mathabatha to choose the right candidates.

He said he was confident both Ramaphosa and Mathabtha would choose people based on their competency.

“They are all ANC members and leaders and it is the president’s or premier’s prerogative to appoint their respective teams. All who make the list mean he or she is capable,” he said.

EFF leader in Bela-Bela, Sello Mosweu said he had nothing good to say about both the national and provincial choices of the ANC

“Our country is not going anywhere with this kind of leadership, as they are all corrupt,” he said.

DA Limpopo leader, Jacques Smalle said he anticipated major changes to both national and provincial cabinets.

“It is still too early to say who I would prefer to be on those lists, but I would not like to see any VBS Mutual Bank culprits to have any position in there,” he said.

VBS Mutual Bank was in the news in recent months following allegations of financial mismanagement, allegedly implicating politicians from both the ANC and EFF.
