Soccer lovers in the Waterberg will have to find alternative ways of leisure, as the football activities across the region had to be postponed as a precaution, against the backdrop of the coronavirus outbreak across the country.

The decision to postpone all soccer matches or events attended by more than 100 people, has seen leagues such as the GladAfrica Championship and the local Waterberg Men’s Regional League being suspended until further
notice.

Following the declaration of the coronavirus as a national disaster by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the South African Football Association (SAFA) moved swiftly to advise its members to suspend and or postpone all football
matches and events that are attended by more than 100 people, until further notice.

“This is our effort to promote the health and safety of all our members including players, officials, sponsors and staff,” said SAFA Acting Chief Executive Officer Thamsanqa Mokoena.

The Waterberg Men’s Regional League comes to a halt at a time when the season is at its climax, with teams going all out to try and secure a better position on the log standings.

Reigning champions Modimolle Terrors FC claimed maximum points last weekend, after beating Modimolle Celtic FC 5-0 at the jam-packed Ephraim Mogale Stadium.

Modimolle Troublemakers FC shared the spoils with Bela-Bela Diesel N Dust FC, following a hard-fought 2-all draw.

In other matches, Qualitho FC secured a huge 6-1 victory, away at Vaalwater’s Volcano FC, while Bela-Bela Academy defeated Barcelona FC 3-1 at Moloto Stadium.
