Itireleng School hosts mini Olympics

A self-initiative by teachers from four secondary schools saw the schools fighting for glory in a mini school Olympics tournament.

A self-initiative by teachers from four secondary schools saw the schools fighting for glory in a mini school Olympics tournament.

Itireleng Secondary School from Rooiberg hosted the event in various sporting codes, namely volleyball, netball, chess and soccer for boys and girls on Saturday 7 March.

Itireleng hosted Vingerkraal Secondary School, Naletsana Combined School and Northam Comprehensive School.

Principal at the hosting school, Ally Pole, told The BEAT the objective of the event was to promote a holistic development and activism of learners.

“A healthy mind finds excellent residence in a healthy body,” he said.

Vingerkraal and Itireleng played to a 1-all draw in the finals.

Vingerkraal beat Naletsana in the semi-finals, while Itireleng knocked out Northam.

Netball saw Itireleng convincingly winning 6-4 against Vingerkraal.

In volleyball Itireleng won against Naletsana.

In the game of chess Itireleng and Vingerkraal reached the finals, with Vingerkraal emerging the ultimate winners.

Upwards of 250 learners took part in the games.
