Good Nedbank Cup last 16 draw for Limpopo

Limpopo teams taking part in the multi-million rand Nedbank Cup stand a fighting chance of advancing to the quarter-finals.

Limpopo teams taking part in the multi-million rand Nedbank Cup stand a fighting chance of advancing to the quarter-finals.

All matches take place on Saturday 22 February.

Thohoyandou Black Leopards FC is home to third-tier ABC Motsepe League minnows, Amavarara FC, from the Eastern Cape.

It is up to the Venda-based lads to make a meal of this one, or mess up bigtime.

While Thohoyandou Black Leopards Fc struggle to grind out points within the ranks of the elite Absa Premiership, Amavarara FC is at number seven on the Eastern Cape Stream of the ABC Motsepe League.

Further south of Thohoyandou either Baroka FC or Polokwane City FC have the opportunity to sail past Hungry Lions FC from the Northern Cape’s ABC Motsepe League.

The advancing team was scheduled to be confirmed during a Limpopo derby midweek.

Cause for concern here is that despite upsetting the much-fancied Jomo Cosmos in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup, Hungry Lions has been on an excellent vein of form in the third-tier league, winning match after match.

The highlight of the Nedbank Cup last 16 fixtures is the battle between Highlands Park FC and Kaizer Chiefs.

Bidvest Wits FC welcomes Chippa United FC, while Bloemfontein Celtic FC have a home date with the much-feared Maritzburg United FC.

Mamelodi Sundowns FC is home to another unknown package, Vaal University of Technology FC, which campaigns at the lowest level of South African football, the regional SAB League.

The Vanderbijlpark team edged out the more-fancied Golden Arrows from the Nedbank Cup through penalties.
