Local athletes prepare for running events

Athletes from both Modimolle and Bela-Bela will take part in a training session on Saturday, 18 January in preparation of two upcoming running events to be held in Gauteng.

Athletes from both Modimolle and Bela-Bela will take part in a training session on Saturday, 18 January in preparation of two upcoming running events to be held in Gauteng.

Modimolle-based long distance runner Lucas Seleka will travel to Bela-Bela in the company of other athletes, to join their counterparts from the neighbouring town.

The training event will be split into three categories which are 10 km, 20 km, and 30 km, and they will all start and finish at Hoërskool Warmbad.

The athletes will be preparing for the Akasia-Wonderpark Road Race in Pretoria scheduled for Saturday, 25 January and also the Johnson Crane Hire Marathon to be held in Benoni on Sunday, 26
January.

Seleka said the beginners will run in the 10km category of the training event.

The starting time for the training event at Bela Bela’s Hoërskool Warmbad will be 04:45.

The athletes have been hard at work since the early days of January, participating in half marathons in preparation for the forthcoming events.
