Vaalwater fun run a success

Over 220 people from across the Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipal jurisdiction participated in the first ever Vaalwater Fun Run/Walk 2019, an event which was organised by Thaba Meetse Sports and Recreation.

The 2.5km and 7km run and walk kicked off at Laerskool Vaalwater on the morning of Saturday 9 November.

Special thanks were dedicated to several organisations for contributing to the huge success of the event.

These include the Waterberg Welfare Society and Waterberg Wave Community Radio Station, the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, Waterberg Tourism, Waterberg Nature Conservancy, the Department of
Sports, Arts and Culture, South African Pro Wrestler and local artists who performed during the event

Thaba Meetse Sports and Recreation is a non-profit company based (NPC) in Vaalwater.

The NPC director Zachariah Sekhu said its aim is to improve the health and well-being of Vaalwater communities, by facilitating outdoor activities.

He also said the NPC aims to promote active recreation and increase physical activity.

“Our ultimate goal is to improve quality of life amongst communities who are more conscious about their lives and wellbeing, and bring those communities closer together,” he said.

Other activities include aerobics, recreational and indigenous games, jumping castles, kids’ corner, and performances by local artists and DJs.

Sekhu said that the registration fees from the event will be donated to Laerskool Vaalwater.
