Limpopo volleyball team shines at national contest

Five players from different parts of the Waterberg District were part of a provincial team which achieved silver at the national volleyball games.

Five players from different parts of the Waterberg District were part of a provincial team which achieved silver at the national volleyball games.

The games were held at the Wynberg Military Base outside the Western Cape capital of Cape Town, from Tuesday 29 October, to Sunday 3 November.

The five were part of the Limpopo Public Works Roads and Infrastructure volleyball team, which emerged runners-up during the games.

The Waterberg players are namely Frans Sekhu from Modimolle, Bela-Bela’s Diana Malherbe and Jan Rengane, Brain Monkwe from Mokopane, and Tshepiso Boskraal from Thabazimbi.

Boskraal said the players were grateful to have participated in the inter-provincial volleyball games.

He said the players were also humbled by the support they received from their colleagues back home.

A team of 16 volleyball players was dispatched to represent the Limpopo province at the national games, after emerging the cream-of-the-crop during the Premier’s Games which were held at the
Peter Mokaba Stadium on 11 October.

The team members were among nominees for the 2019 Limpopo Sports Awards, which were hosted by the provincial Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.
