Alma Primary School learner and athlete, Victor Chauke, has put his rural home village on the map by winning the recent 2019 National Schools Cross Country Championships.

Modimolle-Mookgopong Mayor Marlene Van Staden issued a statement singing the praises of the little boy.

Alma Primary is a small place of learning with an intake of 420 learners.

Van Staden said what is amazing about the 11-year-old is the young athlete has reached dizzy heights, despite not having a professional coach or specialised training.

She said Chauke has shown he is a committed athlete and that he has the potential to become a world beater, with the necessary support.

Chauke has been competing and winning at local, regional and provincial schools’ athletics meetings, without any assistance, relying solely on his talent.

Van Staden promised to arrange a meeting with the school with the objective to assist Chauke by sponsoring running shoes for him.

“We also call upon the community to come together to assist this talented, inspiring individual. Any person willing to provide further assistance is welcome to contact the mayor,” she said.
