All systems go for Junior League

The fledgling Junior League manager Andrew Mafafo said it was all systems go for the Waterberg’s new Junior Soccer League, which was expected to kick off on Saturday 21 September.

He said a satisfactory number of eight development teams had already registered for the new league.

Mafafo said he was scheduled to meet with officials at the South African Football Association (SAFA) regional offices, to verify the players’ names and age.

Safa was expected to verify the players’ identities through the high-tech MySafa vetting system.

He said two more teams were expected to finalise registration, with the league possibly starting with a total of ten teams.

“We are still waiting for two other teams to register,” he said.

Mafafo said kick-off was long overdue, but was held back by last weekend’s Nedbank Cup fixtures.

Fixtures and venues were to be released before the weekend.
