Following the introduction of athletics in the rural village of Katjibane through a fun run/walk in June this year, renowned long-distance runner Lucas Seleka is hosting another event on Saturday, 31 August.

Seleka said he saw the need to organise another fun run/walk in an attempt to promote a healthy lifestyle for the people of Katjibane.

“The Katjibane fun run/walk is for everyone including young people, adults and also the elderly. Registration will start at 06:00, with all races scheduled to start at 07:00,” he said.

He said they were expecting a huge response this time around, much better than the inaugural event, which he said attracted a lukewarm turnout.

Some of the members of the local athletics club, Fitness for All athletics, will also participate in the event.

“Our aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle in local communities, including at rural villages. Part of our goals is to also launch an athletics club in Katjibane. I want to see community members from this area participating in big events like the Soweto Marathon, Jacaranda City Challenge, SuperSPAR Bela bela Marathon and lastly the Comrades Marathon,” he said.

The fun run/walk will split into three categories, among these 2,5 km (R10 registration fee), 5 km (R20) and 10 km (R30).
