All roads lead to Thohoyandou Stadium

All eyes will be focused on Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday 24 August, where home team Black Leopards FC play hosts to the formidable Highlands Park FC in an Absa Premiership fixture.

The two teams are familiar with each other as they campaigned in the second-tier GladAfrica Championship – previously known as the National First Division – two seasons ago.

Highlands Park FC go into the fixture as the favourites, after bundling out the mighty Orlando Pirates FC from the lucrative MTN8 last weekend.

But then Thohoyandou Black Leopards FC should be the hungrier of the two sides, after failing to collect a single point in two opening league fixtures.

Highlands Park FC is also on edge after collecting only a single point from two league matches.

In another match of interest to the home province, Baroka FC have a home date with Bloemfontein Celtic FC.

Team-of-the-moment is arguably the rookies, Stellenbosch FC, who welcome Maritzburg FC.

It is early days yet, but both teams languish at the bottom end of the standings, and need to collect points as a matter of the utmost urgency.

Pick of the Absa Premiership fixtures is most probably between hosts, Kaizer Chiefs FC, and high-riding Supersport United FC.

The Pretoria side has already embarrassed Orlando Pirates FC with a 3-0 drubbing, and the same margin against the respected Wits University FC.
