Athletes around the country will be converging in Bela-Bela for the annual Standard Bank 5150 Bela-Bela Triathlon on Saturday 17 August.
On an unfortunate note, local endurance cyclist and runner, Boikie Monareng of Run-Boikie-Run Sports Development, will not be taking part this year because of injuries.
He said his physician had advised him to take it easy, following injuries sustained after a fall from his bicycle a few weeks ago.
On the day participants were scheduled to swim a distance of 1.5 km in the ski dam, followed by a cycling race over 40 km northbound on the Alma Road, and a 10 km run on the premises of Forever Resorts.
The organisers’ spokesperson, Werner Smit, said the resort setting makes the race a great triathlon weekend get-away, and it is close enough for the large Gauteng triathlon community to travel
to, while providing the ideal setting for an African getaway to international athletes.
