Thohoyandou Black Leopards FC forward Mwape Musonda leads the pack

ABSA Premiership side Thohoyandou Black Leopards FC goal-poacher, Mwape Musonda, continues to lead the pack in terms of goal-scoring, in the league with 12 goals in the bag thus far in the season.

ABSA Premiership side Thohoyandou Black Leopards FC goal-poacher, Mwape Musonda, continues to lead the pack in terms of goal-scoring, in the league with 12 goals in the bag thus far in the season.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) top goal-scorer hit the back of the net three times in the team’s recent league encounter, when his Limpopo side Thohoyandou Black Leopards FC outclassed Chippa United FC 3-2.

The Zambian football star is competing for the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot with Bloemfontein Celtic FC’s Tshegofatso Mabaso and Gift Motupa of Bidvest Wits FC, who are both fighting for the second spot with nine goals each.

The Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot is an annual accolade awarded to a Premier Soccer League (PSL) player with the most goals at the end of each season.

Musonda left Zambia to join ABSA Premiership’s Orlando Pirates FC in 2015, and was later loaned to Lamontville Golden Arrows FC.

Upon his return to Orlando Pirates in 2016, Musonda was then released to Thohoyandou Black Leopards FC, on a free transfer, during the 2016/17 season.

Since joining the Thohoyandou team, Musonda has been on form and has also scored against his former club Orlando Pirates.

During the last 32 stages of the Nedbank Cup, the Zambian centre forward scored an all-important goal, which helped his team equalise and go into penalties.

The match was won by Thohoyandou Black Leopards FC on penalties, but the team was later knocked out of the last 16 stages of the cup, after losing on penalties at the hands of Bidvest Wits FC.
