PSL resumes with tough fixtures for Limpopo

Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams will resume with their quest for the ABSA Premiership title this week, following a weekend off as a result of the MTN 8 cup tournament.

Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams will resume with their quest for the ABSA Premiership title this week, following a weekend off as a result of the MTN 8 cup tournament.

Cape Town City FC lifted the coveted trophy plus R8-million, after outshining Supersport United FC 4-1 on penalties, subsequent to a 0-all draw at regulation and subsequent extra-time.

On the home front, Polokwane City FC held its own with a crucial 1-all draw against the tough Supersport United FC on Tuesday 2 October.

Following a midweek Limpopo derby between the hosts Black Leopards and Baroka FC at Thohoyandou Stadium, the former will travel to Durban for an encounter with Golden Arrows FC on Sunday 7 October.

The 12th-placed Baroka FC will on the same Sunday host the wounded Supersport United FC at Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Black Leopards remains in the relegation zone, sitting on position 15 after playing to a 0-all draw with Free Stars on Wednesday 26 September.

Polokwane City FC was scheduled to visit Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday 6 October. In what could possibly work in favour of Limpopo’s Rise and Shine, the Glamour Boys will not be
allowed to have any fans in the stadium for the weekend fixture, as per the decision of the PSL’s Disciplinary Committee.

The decision follows the unfortunate event which took place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in April this year, where Kaizer Chiefs fans invaded the pitch and inflicted damage on private property
after the team’s match against Free State Stars.

Soccer authortities do not take kindly to teams’ supporters bringing the league into disrepute.
